Non-Surgical Hair Restoration

At Chambers Hair Institute in Troy Michigan, we understand that each patient experiences hair loss in a unique way. For those who have lost a significant amount of hair, a surgical hair restoration procedure is often most appropriate. However, you may not need a hair transplant if you have only moderately thinning hair. We also respect that some patients want to avoid surgery if possible and try a more conservative approach first. Our medical director, Troy Michigan Hair Loss Doctor Salvatore Cavaliere, will make a specific recommendation after you meet with him for your free initial consultation.

ACell with PRP

Chambers Hair Institute offers two specific non-surgical procedures that stimulate your hair follicles to grow your own natural hair again. The first is called ACell with PRP. ACell is the name of the company in Maryland that created an extracellular matrix from animal by-products, and PRP is an acronym for platelet rich plasma. When you undergo ACell with PRP therapy at Chambers Hair Institute, Doctor Cavaliere combines the two to increase the regenerative powers of PRP.

Your blood cells naturally produce PRP, which contains a high concentration of growth factors and proteins than can help the body to self-heal. Doctors in specialties such as orthopedics and sports medicine have treated chronic injuries with PRP for more than 20 years. In recent years, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of PRP in hair restoration therapy. When combined with the extracellular matrix of ACell, PRP provides powerful stimulation to the previously dormant hair follicles.

Doctor Cavaliere obtains PRP from a small blood sample that you provide each time you come to the clinic for treatment. He uses a centrifuge to separate the whole blood and platelets. After numbing your scalp with anesthesia, he injects the ACell combined with PRP. You receive treatment two to three times a week for several months and should start seeing noticeable hair re-growth in about 12 weeks.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

You also have the option of receiving PRP on its own without the added component of ACell. It takes Doctor Cavaliere just 15 minutes to obtain your blood sample and spin in it a centrifuge to retrieve the platelet rich plasma. The process of spinning increases the concentration of the platelets by as much as 600 percent. Once injected into your scalp, the platelets direct the body’s stem cells to re-generate its own hair.

Your hair will grow back in the same color, density, and direction as the hair that you still have remaining. For optimal results, it is important to avoid smoking and to limit alcohol consumption while undergoing PRP therapy. You may also want to consider taking a Vitamin D3 supplement every day in addition to consuming blueberry extract, black tea, or carnosine as these increase the effectiveness of PRP therapy. Doctor Cavaliere will provide you with additional tips for success before you start treatment.

If it seems like you’re losing more hair each day, consider a non-surgical hair restoration procedure at Chambers Hair Institute.
